The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), a nonprofit organization that helps those living in poverty, will sponsor the 7th Annual Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run on Saturday, October 28, 2017. The event will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 1265 Robinson Drive, Haines City. Walkers can register at the St. Vincent de Paul building behind St. Ann’s on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 12 to 2:30p.m., or at the Walk, starting at 9:00 a.m.
In existence for over sixteen years, the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry in Haines City has given food and financial assistance to the poor. We serve the poor not only in the Haines City area, but also in surrounding communities such as Davenport, Dundee, Lake Hamilton, Loughman, Lake Alfred, Lake Wales, and Poinciana. Our clients come from every ethnic, cultural, and economic background as well as every age group. Many families have incomes of less than $1200/month. Often the loss of a job causes a family to need temporary help.
The Haines City conference of SVdP have helped feed over 60,000 men, women, and children since 2012 and our numbers keep growing each year. Last year, 2016, we fed 13,975 people, helped 152 families with utilities, helped 390 children receive Christmas gifts and books, provided school supplies for more than 550 children, and offered English as a Second Language for Spanish speaking clients.
All proceeds and donations from the event will directly benefit the people in the Haines City area served by SVdP, and there are no administrative fees associated with the event. Anyone interested in learning more, participating, or making an online pledge can visit https://www.fopwalk.org/event/1804. If you’d like to help St. Vincent de Paul in Haines City, you could support our walk by being a walker or a sponsor, asking people to donate to the walk, or volunteer to help at the walk.
