I relocated to the Clermont area in early October, eager to start my new job as Publisher of the News Leader and Four Corners publications. It was a bit of a leap of faith. I really liked the area, the Florida weather and easy access to the Chain of Lakes, but the move meant being separated from my fiancé who is awaiting a transfer with the USDA. However, my best friend Bella joined me in Florida mid-October and she too was eager to get acquainted and make new friends; the four-legged kind. Bella is my 11 month old part Chihuahua, part Poodle, part unknown little bundle of sweetness.
We attended the grand opening of Lake Hiawatha Park on November 15th. The tall trees reminds us of our favorite aspects of our hometown in Iowa, but one thing that makes Clermont stand apart is the small and large dog, fenced areas. In Iowa I worked with a group that had been trying to get a dog park off of the ground for years- so I know the obstacles that the community here may have faced to make this pooch paradise a reality, and to those volunteers, Bella and I say thank you. We visit the park several times per week and have heard many positive comments from the other 2-legged supporters in attendance. While the dogs love to play, I have found it’s a great place to meet people, too.
Bella and I hope to see you at the park real soon! Join in the fun at 450 N. 12th Street. Bring the kids- they’ll love the playground that features a maze, replica water tower and watching the dogs! If time, there are trails for a nice hike!
