In just a few weeks those lazy summer days will be upon us. If you need some engaging free activities for the children or grandkids, look first to your local library. Most activities do not require a library card.
This year’s Summer Reading Program features the theme “Build a Better World” and lasts from June 12-July 20.
Registration kickoff is Monday, June 5 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. in the Youth Services Department. You can pick up the registration packet and enter your children in a grand prize drawing. There will be no youth services activities in May as the department prepares for summer. Of course you can still visit and check out materials.
All ages and skill levels can participate in chess Mondays at 5:00. If you enjoy the needle arts, Chronicles of Yarnia gathers each Thursday from 4:00-6:00 for knitting or crochet. Those who love sewing and quilting are welcome Mondays at 1:00 to create or learn with the Kindred Stitchers. For further information, call the library at (352)243-1840 or check online at www.mylakelibrary.org.
The Friends of the Library will host their monthly book sale on May 20 from 9:00-1:30 in the lobby. Hardcover books are no longer part of the per bag pricing but are still a great bargain for your summer reading! To learn more about the Friends or join the group, visit www.caganfriends.com, a secure website, or visit their Facebook page.
The library is overwhelmed by generous donations this spring, so they are requesting that you drop off no more than one or two boxes or bags of clean items from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Please bring all items to the circulation desk indoors.
