Constitution Week is the commemoration of America’s most important document. The celebration of the Constitution was started by the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1955 DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17th – September 23rd annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Mayor Gail Ash is shown presenting the Constitution Week Proclamation signed by the City of Clermont at the City Council meeting to Susan DeHart, Regent of Tomoka Chapter, D.A.R. The Tomoka Chapter had a Constitution Week luncheon Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Sanctuary Ridge Golf Club with guests George and Martha Washington portrayed by Cara and Bill Elder.
