The GFWC Four Corners Jr. Woman's Club held its 3rd Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon - Fall Fling - at ChampionsGate(R) Golf Club on Saturday, November 5, 2011. This is the organization's primary fundraising event. Chico's of Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves sponsored the fashions being modeled by several members. Former Clubwoman, Leah Turner emcees the event. Miss Turner is Chief Marketing Officer at Turner Time Consulting in the Tampa area. Proceeds from the event will purchase books for schoolchildren, fund weekend grocery backpacks for students, provide operational monies for The Way Center, a transitional residential center providing social services for women and youth in need or crisis, fund a scholarship for a local high school senior through the Polk Education Foundation, and assist The Humane Society of Polk County which runs a no-kill shelter.

The October 2011 general luncheon meeting was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, with featured guest speaker, Trudi E. Griffo, MD, author, presenter, and researcher. Dr. Griffo is partner with her husband, Mark D. Griffo, MD, FACOG, at ALL ABOUT WOMEN, P.L.L.C., a gynecology practice in Davenport. Dr. Griffo presented a program on sexual health for women, including how sexual function is affected by various conditions and current medical thinking on several remedies.

The November general meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 2011, will be an outing to Bok Tower Gardens for lunch and a garden visit. Gardens admission is $12. The General Federation of Women's Clubs promotes charitable donations and volunteerism with the slogan, "It's a volunteer thing."(TM) The local chapter, GFWC Four Corners Jr. Woman's Club, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization, reaches out to the Four Corners community of Polk, Osceola, Lake and Orange counties.
