Thursday, November 17, 2011
Polk County Public School's (PCPS) Hearth Project kicks off its "Fill-A-Bag" campaign to benefit Polk County public school students who have been identified as homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless. The Hearth Project, under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act, provides Polk County homeless students with educational stability and assistance.
The "Fill-a-Bag" campaign will be collecting and distributing hygiene necessities all year long, as inventory allows. The Hearth Project requests only NEW ITEMS be collected when filling the gallon (or larger) sized zip-lock bags.
Individual gallon-size bags should be filled with: shampoo / conditioner; toothbrushes and toothpaste; bath soap; brushes / combs; deodorant; wash cloths; gift cards for food, gas, and clothing are another item that can be included in the "Fill-a-Bag."
Please send individually filled bags (not individual items) by mail or courier to: Dee Dee Wright, Hearth Portable, PCPS District Office, 1915 Floral Ave., Bartow, FL 33831. If you have any questions or your department, school, business or organization would like to participate on a larger scale, please call the Hearth Office at (863) 534-0801 for more information.
Monetary donations are also accepted for the payment of services or items needed for these students. Please make checks payable to the Polk Education Foundation with "Hearth Project" noted on the memo line. Donations can be mailed to: The Hearth Project, P.O. Box 391, Bartow, FL 33831.
