Windermere Union Church Celebrates Christmas
Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Our modern lives are so hectic, but the Christmas story can bring joy and peace to us even in these difficult times. Windermere Union Church, United Church of Christ, 10710 Park Ridge-Gotha Road, hopes to bring that peace and joy to those attending three special Christmas services which will each present the celebration of the birth of the Christ child in a different way. The December 4 and December 11 services are at 10 a.m. Sundays, the regular church service hour.
On Sunday, December 4, there will be a cantata, which is a musical production that tells a story. It is called, "Come and Behold Him," written by Nathan Howe. The church choir will sing under the direction of Kevin Harris, music director of the church.
On Sunday, December 11, the annual Christmas pageant will be presented with an intergenerational cast. It was written by Chris Stumpf, childcare and wedding coordinator of the church, but also a talented writer. The play is called, "Wish I Had Been There."
On Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24 at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church, decorated beautifully for the holiday season, the candlelight Christmas Eve service will be held. It will include traditional and contemporary Christmas carols sung by both, the church choir and the congregation. Windermere Union Church's minister, Barton Buchanan, will officiate with the reading of the Biblical Christmas story and tell how it relates to us in today's world. Communion will be served and everyone is welcome to partake. Also, a special offering will be taken for missions. At the conclusion of the service, the entire congregation will each be given a candle to light and then silently process out of the church with joy and peace in their hearts anticipating the celebration of the birthday of the baby Jesus.
All are not only welcome at these Christmas services, but at every Sunday service at Windermere Union Church. Call 407-876-2112 or log on to www.windermereunion.org for more information.
