GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club Meeting

At the March 2017 general meeting, Irene Ward presented a program on the history of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the heritage of Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club as a GFWC-affiliated organization.

GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club April 2017 general meeting and luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, 2017. GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club regularly meets the third Wednesday of each month at Tradewinds Restaurant at Bahama Bay Resort just off Florence Villa Grove Road in Davenport near US 27. Lunch is served at 11:30am and the business meeting begins at noon. Prospective members are always welcome.
Club member Irene Ward will speak about the Hacienda Girls’ Ranch. Hacienda Girls’ Ranch, located in Melbourne, Florida, is a program of the Children’s Home Society of Florida. Hacienda is the oldest favored charity of the Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs which has raised funds to build three homes on the property over the years. Hacienda Girls’ Ranch provides a safe haven for teen girls who are in foster care. The girls, ages 12 to 17, receive educational support, counseling, recreational opportunities, guidance and direction on how to live independently.
At the March 2017 general meeting, Irene Ward presented a program on the history of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the heritage of Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club as a GFWC-affiliated organization.
The Club voted on the distribution of proceeds from the 2017 Fashion Show and Luncheon held in January. Heather’s Hope will receive $2000; $1000 each for a scholarship for a student from Polk County and a student from Osceola County; Relay for Life will receive $100; La Familia to receive $250; the Way Center to receive $500; Green Bag Project to receive $100; $250 each for A Gift For Teaching (Osceola County) and Polk Education Foundation; $50 each for the Way Center and Lighthouse Ministries toward Thanksgiving dinners.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is an international organization with more than 4,000 clubs and over 100,000 members across the country. The local chapter, GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization, reaches out to the Four Corners community of Polk, Osceola, Lake and Orange counties through volunteerism and charitable donations.
