The October 2017 general meeting of GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Tradewinds Restaurant at Bahama Bay Resort just off US 27 near the intersection of Florence Villa Grove Road in Davenport. Lunch is served at 11:30am; the general meeting begins about noon. Guests are welcome at all general meetings.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Club members are encouraged to wear pink (breast cancer), lavender (all cancers), or purple (domestic violence) in support of victims, survivors, family members, and friends. The speaker will be Amy Nichols, Community Development Director of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Haines City and Davenport. The next Relay for Life is scheduled for March 17, 2018 from 4:00pm-9:00pm at Lake Eva Park, Haines City.
Donations of paper goods, i.e., paper towels, toilet paper, etc., will be collected at the meeting for the WAY (Women and Youth) Center in Haines City. The donations will be presented to Leanne Pierce, Director of the WAY Center, at the November meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Ongoing donations include the Green Bag Project which provides weekend food for schoolchildren, and clipped coupons for the “Coups for Troops” military family stationed in South Korea.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is an international organization with more than 4,000 clubs and over 100,000 members across the country. The local chapter, GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization, reaches out to the Four Corners community of Polk, Osceola, Lake and Orange counties through volunteerism and charitable donations.
