On Monday April 23rd, under threatening skies, Kings Ridge Men’s Golf Association hosted the 13th Annual Hospice Golf Tournament. All proceeds benefit Hospice and the Michael Conley House here in Clermont.
Twenty six teams (foursomes) played, made up of KR residents and outside participants. Ron Phillips supplied donuts and coffee for the golfers in the Pro Shop. Individual players were able to win prizes on designated holes, including a new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, supplied by Don Mealey Chevrolet, for a hole in one on the par 3 hole #14. Although nobody got the car, our own Betty Horan received a $500 gift certificate for her hole in one on hole #2. This was not her first hole in one, but the first with a prize.
Teams were made up on four flights, Men’s A & B, Mixed C & D. Prizes were awarded for first and second place on all four flights. Prizes were “free” golf rounds at Kings Ridge, Red Tail, and Eagle Creek Golf Courses, and were donated by the Central Florida Group, Owners and Operators of the three Golf Clubs.
Carrabbas Italian Grill of Clermont catered lunch at the Clubhouse for the participants.
All proceeds from the tournament and the hole sponsor’s (40 this year) donations, go to the Michael Conley House here in Clermont. A “Diamond” sponsor was created this year, Noland’s Roofing Co., who sponsored nine holes. The hole sponsorships from individuals, merchants , and businesses are a large part of the tournament.
This year’s proceeds exceeded $21,000, and a “giant” check was presented to Nick Buchholz and Carol Felder, Area Director and Development Director representing Cornerstone Hospice Foundation by Todd Nekola, KRMGA Treasurer and Tournament Director.
Just as the Luncheon and the Awards were finished, the heavens opened up and Kings Ridge got a torrential rain. “Our Prayers were answered, by holding off until the tournament was completed” said Todd.
Please mark your calendars for next year as the 14th Annual Tournament will be played. Come and take part of a wonderful tradition for an awesome charity.
