The Ride of Silence is a deeply personal event here in Clermont. The ride starts and ends at the memorial bench at Waterfront Park and was held May 16, 2018. The bench honors the memory of Harry Nickell, an active triathlete who was also was a big part of the transformation of Waterfront Park. Harry was an avid cyclist and was the fiance of current City Council Member Diane Travis, pictured on the left in this photo. Standing next to Diane is Harry’s daughter, Lacey Nickell; Sara McLarty, a Clermont triathlete whose father was a cyclist killed by a motorist and Sara’s mom, Karen McLarty.
The mission of the Ride of Silence is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road and provide awareness of bicycling safety.
